Questions You'll Probably Ask

Why does Product Sprint exist?

chevron

UBC PMC is committed to creating a path for university students to learn about and acquire roles on product teams by connecting them with companies to gain real experience.

Who is this program for?

chevron

This competition is focused around software product management. Product Sprint is the ideal event to learn how to think like a PM and work in an environment similar to a product team, particularly if you are planning to pursue a career in product management, engineering, or design.

What skills will I need to attend?

chevron

No prior training is required! The program is designed to walk teams through the product design process with designated timelines and interactive workshops. However, experience in design or development will be an asset to your team.

What is the time commitment?

chevron

Everyone is expected to attend the kick-off on Jan 22 and competition on Feb 6 and teams should be available for the workshops and check-ins during each phase. Otherwise, how you spend your time is up to you, but we recommend committing an average of 2 hours per day across 16 days (which includes 3 weekends).

How much does it cost to attend?

chevron

The Product Sprint is completely free to attend! Mentorship, workshops, resources, and conference attendance will be provided to all competing teams.

Are the events completely online?

chevron

Due to COVID-19, Product Sprint will be fully online. However, we will be using spatial video conferencing software to bring back many of the interactions that would normally take place in a physical space. Teams may choose to meet up in-person if they wish!

What kinds of activities will there be?

chevron

Each of the 4 phases contains a workshop and check-in pitch with mentors. The 2 weeks will culminate with a mini-conference that will include the competition, networking, and exhibition of the winning teams.

How do I form a team or find teammates?

chevron

Individuals who are accepted into the competition can form teams of 3 with each other prior to the start of the program. We will provide a platform for forming teams leading up to the kick-off.

When will you share prize or case info?

chevron

Right now we’re assessing how many sponsors we will have and where the cases will come from before we release these details. Follow us on social media to stay up-to-date!
